Val Kilmer was originally going to appear as Madmartigan, but he reluctantly didn't feel he could come out during the Covid-19 pandemic and was not able to participate. It was written into the series that after marrying and having children with Sorsha, Madmartigan later abandoned her and their children, along with Elora Danan.
