Composer James Horner was known for frequently referencing classical music in his scores. In Willow, the Elora Danan theme is taken from the Bulgarian hymn "Mir Stanke Le", while the heroic motif for Val Kilmer is clearly an imitation of the main theme of Robert Schumann's 3rd Symphony, "The Rhenish".
