Eichhorst and Dremerhaven display a level of free will not achieved by any other strigoi in the series. This includes a level of vanity and self-awareness to the point of spending much time utilizing prostheses and makeup to make themselves look human. Kelly Goodweather later emulates this behavior after she turns (as does Bolivar to a lesser extent), under Eichhorst's influence. However in the novels, Eichhorst and Dremerhaven are the only two strigoi that ever do this. All other strigoi in the books, even the "favored" Strigoi (Bolivar and Kelly Goodweather) remain mostly mindless drones with no discernible characteristics or uniquely identifiable personality traits. It was decided early in production that, because notable actors were being utilized for these parts, the "favored" Strigoi should all be uniquely identifiable and exhibit unique personality traits in accordance with their free will.
