Ron Bass' first involvement with the film (when Martin Brest was attached) all took place over the phone as he was suffering from adult chicken pox at the time. As Brest's and Dustin Hoffman's wives were pregnant at the time, no one actually wanted to sit down for a face-to-face meeting with him.
