When Don Rafael returns to California, he first looks for Don Diego in prison. The jailer asks the prisoners which one was the man called Zorro. First one, then another, then the whole room is filled with men yelling "I am Zorro." This is reminiscent of the scene in Spartacus (1960) where a few, then many, Roman prisoners all claim "I am Spartacus."
