Day one of filming was plagued with problems: after an extended trek into the Glen Coe Hills, the crew's only sync camera sheared its gears and the team could only shoot mute shots that involved crossing the Bridge of Death. Graham Chapman suffered from delirium tremens (DTs, a side-effect of his alcoholism) and froze when trying to cross the Bridge of Death, thus having to be doubled by first assistant director Gerry Harrison.
