In the season one finale episode, "The Thing Lays Still", Louis slits Lestat's throat after finding out about his (Lestat) and Antoinette's betrayal toward him (Louis) and Claudia, and to be free from his (Lestat's) control. In the original novel and in Intervista col vampiro (1994), Claudia slits Lestat's throat after poisoning him so that she and Louis could be free of him.
