The dean of Sam and Leo's school is film historian, novelist, and commentator Jeanine Basinger who for many years was the Corwin-Fuller Professor of Film Studies and Founder and Curator of The Cinema Archives at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Her students over the years include the likes of Joss Whedon, Alexander Payne, Dan Shotz, Diane Kolyer, Phil Abraham, Zak Penn, Akiva Goldsman, and Michael Bay. Basinger's essay on Bay's Armageddon is included in the film's Criterion release and she recorded commentary with Bay for a home video release of Pearl Harbor.
