The appearance of Billy Loomis was a mixture of VFX and live-action performed by the original actor, Skeet Ulrich. Due to COVID-19, Ulrich wasn't initially available, so Melissa Barrera (Sam) first acted out her scenes while a stand-in did Ulrich's lines. At the end of shooting, Ulrich came to the set to shoot his part, with Barrera doing her scenes again for him to react to.
