This movie uses flashback for the benefit of audience members who saw the previous movie, Harold & Kumar, due amici in fuga (2008), but who did not stay until the very end of the credits. Those people may not have known how the Neil Patrick Harris character can be in this third movie, since he was shot several times during the prior movie. In the post-credits scene of H&KEFGB, "NPH" pushed himself up off the ground sometime after the shooting and appeared only to be slightly annoyed rather than mortally wounded. This movie gives a humorous metaphysical explanation for his survival.
