Of the movie's budget, producer Mark Patterson said: "A lot of people think a smaller budget is easier to manage, but it actually requires more organisation. You don't have this big machine so people have to be very resourceful. You have to come up with creative ideas and creative scenarios which on the screen you don't notice have been done on the smell of an oily rag." Patterson continued: "[Director] Paul [Cox] is fantastic at that, his films don't look like they're small budget. They're shot on 35mm and every shot is beautiful, but if you flipped the camera around you'd see a small set, minimal gear and minimal lighting. We could do it because he's an extremely talented cinematographer in his own right and a very, very experienced filmmaker."
