The very same day that the pilot sold, Barbara Eden found out that she was pregnant. After battling infertility for 7 years, she had every intention of quitting the show to have her baby. She insisted on seeing Sidney Sheldon that day so she could let him know she was quitting and he needed to find another actress. He was so convinced that no one else would be so perfect as Jeannie that he insisted they would make it work. They were able to film 10 more episodes (in addition to the already completed pilot) before Eden took her maternity leave.
