It's theorized that the following installments of the franchise, Terminator 3 - Le macchine ribelli (2003), Terminator 3 - Le macchine ribelli (2003), Terminator Genisys (2015) and the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008), are non-canon and that all take place in multiple alternate time lines created as consequence of Miles Dyson blowing up the Cyberdyne building, since that people feel as canon only Terminator (1984) and this movie. However, Terminator - Destino oscuro (2019) is a direct sequel to T2 which takes place 24 years after the events of the 2nd film. Very interestingly, fan short film, Skynet (2021), solved the trouble of the plot holes in the sequels (See: Doctor Strange nel multiverso della follia (2022)).
