The decoder tool Enola uses is a variation on the Alberti cipher disk, one of the first polyalphabetic ciphers. While highly effective, they have a chief weakness in that codes encrypted with one can be solved without the tool by simple frequency analysis. Extra security can be achieved by a previously agreed-upon shift system, letters and numerals doubling for others, and/or as here, when combined with one or more other types of codes (Enola and Eudoria's flower language).
