On the occasion of the film,s showing at the Berlin film festival in February of 1990, the Wall had come down so director Stone and his company United Artists president Michael William Jones used hammers and chisels they were given to chip away at the remnants of that symbol of conflict between West and East, of which the war in Viet Nam that was the basis for his film, was a part.
