In 1997, actor Ewan McGregor labeled the film "an abomination", a typical Hollywood example of how art suffers for the sake of money. He ridiculed the writing, its perceived over-reliance on special effects and the acting, to the point where he felt that the actors should have their Equity cards revoked.
