The title of episode 3; They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be, in which Kolchak faces an invisible alien creature, was directly inspired by a line from the H.P. Lovecraft story The Dunwich Horror: "The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, They walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen." The story also involved an invisible creature, one that terrorized the Rhode Island countryside.
