Bradley Cooper admitted that his decision to perform a scene of full frontal nudity was a big one because he had never done such a scene before in his career. He said, "The content of what the movie is, in order to do it in a real way, it demanded that we be naked - emotionally, soulfully and even physically, which actually was a big deal for me but I remember reading it in the script and thinking, he's a pickle punk in that bathtub and its the story , you have to do it. I still remember that day just to be naked in front of the crew for 6 hours and it was Toni Collette's first day and you know it was just like Whoa! It was pretty heavy. I'd never done that. That was a big deal. I'd never done that." He reiterated that he was fully committed to the movie and never tried getting out of the scene adding, "No, I didn't push back at all. No, no. I knew there was nothing gratuitous about it. It was the story." Cooper's decision to appear fully nude was considered incredibly brave as it is still very rare among A-List Hollywood leading stars of Cooper's stature and importance.
