The television version was a continuation of the radio soap opera "The Brighter Day" (1948-1956). The radio version was a spin-off of the radio soap opera "Joyce Jordan, M.D." (1938-1948, 1951-1955). The Dennis family were originally introduced as supporting characters in "Joyce Jordan".
