Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker becomes the third top-billed actor, and fourth top-billed character, to die on screen. Liam Neeson and Harrison Ford both died by being impaled on a lightsaber. Ewan McGregor received top billing for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, but Sir Alec Guinness played out his death. Luke and Obi-Wan both vanish, becoming one with the Force.
