In Egyptian mythology, Khonsu (in the comics spelled "Khonshu") is the god of the Moon, Time and Fertility. His name means "traveler", referring to his travels across the sky each night. As Khonsu is a god who protects nighttime travelers, he is sometimes called "Defender" - in the comics, Moon Knight serves in the Defenders group. He is also described in the comics as "The Cannibal God", "The Greatest God of the Great Gods", "The Devourer of Hearts", "The Chronographer", and "The Mighty Bull".
