Originally, Tollin/Robbins Productions were planning to do a show that followed the story of a young Bruce Wayne before he became Batman. Since Warner Brothers had decided to do Batman Begins (2005), and didn't want the movie to compete with a television show, Tollin/Robbins Productions suggested Peter Roth, President of Warner Brothers Television, to develop a show about a young Clark Kent, which later became this show. The idea was later revisited and soon became Gotham (2014).
