Brie Larson auditioned for the role of Cindy Paulson. She overdid her audition scene to the point that she scared the casting director. She was ultimately ruled out from the role as producers thought as her being 5' 8'' of height, Larson would be too tall to play the 5' 2'' Cindy. The role was later given to Vanessa Hudgens.
