The scene where Willoughby rescues Marianne in driving rain took about fifty takes. This resulted in Kate Winslet contracting hypothermia and fainting. To warm her up, Greg Wise stuck her legs into his armpits, whilst Emma Thompson was rubbing her shoulders. It was during this that Winslet first noticed Wise and Thompson flirting.
