According to the preliminary production information, Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman) is divorced. Hoffman's character in the then recent movie Kramer contro Kramer (1979) was also divorced. And in both movies, the male character had to assume some female characteristics being either the mother of the child or portraying a woman.
