For the scene in which Pine (Tom Hiddleston) walks in and finds Sophie brutally murdered, Tom Hiddleston asked director Susanne Bier to forego rehearsal. He didn't want to see Aure Atika (Sophie) in makeup or see the set. Bier agreed and then decided that she did not want Hiddleston to premeditate his reaction or tell her anything about what he was going to do. She simply explained the shot and various angles and marks to him, set up several cameras, and allowed him to walk into the room in character and react as Pine to Sophie's bloody corpse. What we see in the episode was all captured in one take.
