In this film, Mark Lenard plays the Klingon captain. This is the third alien species in the Star Trek franchise that the actor played - the first was the Romulan commander in Star Trek: Balance of Terror (1966), then Spock's father, the Vulcan ambassador Sarek in Star Trek: Journey to Babel (1967), a role which he would reprise several times between 1973 and 1991.
