The show follows Good Morning, Miss Bliss (1987), which was set at John F. Kennedy Junior High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, canceled after 14 episodes. NBC retooled the show, moved it to Bayside High School in Pacific Palisades, California, and removed many characters. Dennis Haskins, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Dustin Diamond, and Lark Voorhies were the only actors to transition. They never explained moving to California, which led to a fan theory that the show is an elaborate daydream by Zack Morris, a slacker who fantasizes about being a cool kid who always succeeds and gets away with everything. Supporters point to the show's theme song, which supposedly describes 'slacker' Zack's thoughts, and to Zack's ability to do a "Time-out," where he temporarily stops time and breaks the fourth wall.
