When young actor/director Carlo Verdone first met Sergio Leone, who would later become his producer, mentor and personal friend, Leone asked him which of his movies was Verdone's favorite. When Verdone answered it was this movie, Leone jokingly commented "Sei proprio un burino!" (You really are a lout!), quipping that this movie was, among his movies, the one favored by "burini e scippatori" (louts and thieves).
