Actors considered for the role of Dr Roget included Richard E. Grant, Derek Jacobi, Malcolm McDowell, Timothy Dalton and John Rhys-Davies. In the end, the part was cast with actor Charles Dance, whose facial look actually evoked that of Robert Helpmann who played Dr Roget in the original 'Patrick' (1978).
