There was a crossover/spinoff episode which saw Rhoda leaving Minneapolis and marrying her boyfriend Joe, as well as the birth of the Rhoda spinoff. The marriage episode turned out to be an unexpected blockbuster: it was the highest rated television episode of the 1970s until Roots premiered in 1977. Little did television audiences know Rhoda and Joe would be divorced within 2 years. Phyllis even teased Rhoda about it in the final MTM episode: Phyllis- How's Joe? Rhoda- We're divorced. Phyllis (smiling)- I know! Rhoda- You know what Phyllis!...
