In Gods of the Arena, a central theme is the construction of the new amphitheater (arena) in Capua. Gods of the Arena took place 5 years before Spartacus' Rebellion in 73 BC, meaning it was built around 79 BC. This is not historically accurate however. The oldest known Roman amphitheater is the amphitheater in Pompeii, which was constructed in 70 BC. The small arena that was seen in Gods of the Arena would remain Capua's sole arena until the new one was to be erected around 30 BC. This amphitheater would be the second largest in all of Rome, eclipsed only by the Flavian Amphitheater (better known as the Colosseum), which, likewise, didn't exist during Spartacus' time.
