Reilly was given the choice to wear a hot fat suit (which would later be installed with tubes to pump cool water) or gain 100 pounds in order to portray the role of Oliver Hardy. He chose the former as in previous films of his, he gained weight but it took such a long time to lose it afterwards and vowed to never do something like that again because of the rigorous process it takes to shed that much.
