For dramatic effect, much is made of the suggestion that Germany is losing the war because Hitler is sleeping (and thus not available to release the Panzer divisions, which could only be done on his personal command). However, by mid-1944 Germany was already well on its way to losing the war, mainly due to the massive defeats on the eastern front. Apart from the fact that is uncertain if the Panzers would have been able to defeat the Allied invasion, it is more than likely that Germany would still have been defeated by the Red Army even if the D-Day invasion was repelled.
