This film was scheduled to be shot in Super Panavision (2.20:1). Only weeks before principle photography was to begin, Robert Gottschalk of Panavision showed producer/director George Stevens samples of film shot in the Ultra Panavision (2.75:1) system. Stevens decided to change the filming to Ultra Panavision and the finished film was premiered in Cinerama venues.
