The writers, directors, and many of the actors read the first Halo book, The Fall of Reach, prior to filming. With various crew members saying they were surprised how good and compelling the first book was. Given that it was based on a video game, some reportedly didn't expect The Fall of Reach to be a well written book prior to reading it.
