After five full seasons, ABC put the show on hiatus for the first half of the 1996-1997 TV season to make room for the new show Clueless (1996) on TGIF, ABC's popular Friday night primetime sitcom block. ABC cancelled Clueless (1996) in February 1997 due to poor ratings, and brought back Una bionda per papà (1991) for the remainder of the season. After ABC cancelled the series at the end of its sixth season, CBS picked it up along with 8 sotto un tetto (1989), which had also been cancelled by ABC in an effort to create their own Friday night block of family programming.
