One of the featured ballerinas in the film is played by New York City Ballet soloist Unity Phelan. Phelan says of the scene where The Director forces her character to perform a difficult turn repeatedly, "I can tell you that it is truly exhausting to do that kind of move over and over again." She says, "That's how a teacher breaks you down in order to build you back up and that's the dynamic between The Director and my character."
