Joe Spinell, who played Willi Cicci in Il padrino (1972) and Il padrino - Parte II (1974), was to have reprised his role, but died before production was to begin. An earlier version of the script had Cicci working for new characters, the Russo Brothers. The three characters were eventually combined into Joey Zasa.
