Every year the show gets thousands of letters and e-mails from viewers requesting that the show assist them with their renovation projects, or answer questions about home improvement. A spin-off series, Ask This Old House (2002) was created in response to these viewers. The show features the experts from "This Old House" (minus Norm Abram) answering questions from viewers, as well as assisting homeowners with smaller projects than the ones featured on "This Old House".
