Agent Stone refers to Knuckles as a "porcupine" possibly in reference to his theme from Sonic Adventure, Unknown from M.E., doing the same.And also referencing the fact that echidnas do look a bit similar to porcupines and can be mistaken for them at first glance. The major differences between them are that they have a longer snout, they have big claws on their forepaws, the quills don't come out, and they are one of the two mammals that lay eggs.
