This is a combination of other older horror movies: The Shining, where you have the boy with the terrifying and awesome ESP powers, A Nightmare on ElmStreet, where you have monsters from the dream world killing people in the real world, Edward Scissorhands and Frankenstein mythologies, where you have a childlike monster figure who is innocent at heart and accidentally kills people, also the Sixth Sense, where the boy seems to connect with people and spirits from the netherworld, and finally the Twilight Zone Movie's "It's a Good Life", where you have the boy with terrifying powers who is tamed not by an Exorcist, but a mother figure; a kind of "horse whisperer" character who calms him down and brings him back to the real world.
