The Black Hood, the serial killer that terrorizes Riverdale in season 2, is named after a superhero published by Archie Comics in the 1940s, first appearing in Top-Notch Comics #9 (Oct. 1940). The Red Circle, the club Archie forms to combat the Black Hood, is named after Red Circle Comics, an imprint of Archie Comics formed in 1978 for publishing horror, fantasy, and superhero comics.
