The radios that Finch, Jim, Oz, & Stifler are using are either FRS or GMRS radios. Consumer 2-way radios that transmit ½ watt or 5 watts (respectively) and do not require a license with the exception of GMRS. GMRS do require an FCC license for their use as per F.C.C. They have declined in use for the same reason that payphones have: Proliferation & ubiquitousness of cellular telephones. After Finch Tantra meditates, he gets up, then a GMRS radio can be seen on his belt.
