Gollum shares characteristics with Grendel from La leggenda di Beowulf (2007), based on the Anglo-Saxon epic "Beowulf." Both characters were computer generated, both are humanoid creatures who lived in a lake in or under a mountain, and they are portrayed as outwardly savage but inwardly childlike creatures.
