"Love of Chair" was a parody of the long-running TV soap opera Love of Life (1951). Ken Roberts, who narrated the "Love of Chair" episodes, served as the original announcer on "Love of Life," and on many other early radio and TV soap operas. Each "Love of Chair" episode ends with Roberts asking, "And what about Naomi?" He is referring to Naomi Foner, an associate producer of the show during its first two seasons. She is an Oscar-nominated screenwriter (for Vivere in fuga (1988)), and the mother of actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
