For incorporating the idea of a musical version of the Avengers, the show runners were given the go ahead from producer Kevin Feige to really run with the concept. So they specifically hired a composer in that field, Marc Shaiman, to write a four minute musical number and topped this off by bringing in an ensemble of seasoned musical theater performers to do a fully choreographed song & dance sequence on stage. All of this number does end up in the show, including Shaiman himself, in a cameo role as the musical director of that number (thus basically playing himself).
