Stefano Ferrari was an executive producer and one of the Italian financiers on the film. It killed his Hollywood career before it even started. He was heir to his father's highly successful Italian pharmaceutical company, but he didn't want to be part of that business so he moved to the US and formed a film production company. He got this script, liked it and used some of the $14 million that his father lent him to fund this movie (which upset his family). After the film his father died, the movie was sent straight to video, he owed over $1 million to a lot of people and he got in a rift with the film's other producer, Richard Abramson.
