Odin's fate was given different answers by some of the crew. Producer Kevin Feige didn't outright answer the question, but said that there are plans for him, director Alan Taylor thought he was dead, but wanted to know how he'd end up in the sequel, and Sir Anthony Hopkins didn't have an idea, and believed that he was dead. As of the release of Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Odin is alive, but dies part way through the movie.
