Uma Thurman who tested for the film was also in another controversial film that was also released in 1990. She had co-starred in Philip Kaufman's adaptation of Anais Nin's memoir, "Henry & June" that was released by Universal a couple of months prior to this film. The film was controversial for it's explicit sex scenes (including one involving Thurman) that earned the film the newly branded NC-17 film board rating which had been instituted earlier that year. If Thurman had been cast in this film, she would've been in two of the years' more controversial films released by two different major studios within a span of three months (October and December).
